Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Pharmacy is cooperating with K Agro-Innovate Institute and the Kasikorn Thai Foundation to support the "Nan Sandbox" project, an experimental project with the goal of restoring forest areas in the Nan province. The goal is for villagers to live together in the forest through the concept of "special area management", by bringing together public and private sectors to ensure sustainable community development.
The "Nan Sandbox" will focus on developing farmers to find ways to alter their monoculture towards the cultivation of valuable alternative crops that could coexist with watershed forests in order to generate sufficient income for individuals. This method takes up less space and is environmentally friendly, and it sustainably improves welfare and the environment. The "Nan Sandbox" project emphasizes "Herbs" and considers them as valuable plants.
This project utilizes the Faculty of Pharmacy’s research and expertise in pharmaceuticals, herbs, food supplements, and cosmetics that are accepted at national and international levels. The Faculty is particularly in charge of the analytical process and quality assurance of raw materials and herbal products which both parties deem to be highly beneficial and is supported by the Kasikorn Thai Foundation.
