It is well-established that cigarettes are a cause of many serious diseases including emphysema, lung cancer and cardiovascular disease. Not only do smokers get sick from tobacco smoke, secondhand smokers are also likely to get sick from this smoke as well.
Chiang Mai University recognizes the importance of promoting its staff and students’ health, especially warning them against the dangers of cigarettes. As such measures have been implemented to prevent and solve smoking problems in Chiang Mai University.
All departments must strictly operate in accordance with the Tobacco Products Control Act 2017 and the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act 2008 and must prohibit smoking in the departments. In addition, the university supports activities to discourage smoking so that staff and students are aware of its dangers.
Smoking is not only harmful to one's health and to those around us it is a waste of money to purchase cigarettes, adding to unnecessary expenses. For those who want to quit smoking, the university has a smoking cessation counseling service.
Here one can get advice on quitting smoking at the smoking cessation clinic, at the Community Pharmacy Action Center, Faculty of Pharmacy and is supported by the Office of Health Promotion Fund (ThaiHealth).
