Faculty of Fine Arts Congratulates Participants of KYOTO Gathering for Asian Art Students 2025

The Faculty of Fine Arts extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Paphanun Phempeng and Mr. Faich Hasram, students of the Media Arts and Communication Design Program, together with Mr. Worathep Akkhabutr, Lecturer, on the occasion of being invited to participate in the KYOTO Gathering for Asian Art Students 2025.

The program was organized by ICA Kyoto and the Kyoto University of the Arts Graduate School, with generous support from The Japan Foundation, and took place from 12–14 November 2025 at Kyoto University of the Arts, Japan.

The KYOTO Gathering for Asian Art Students is a three-day international workshop that provides a platform for art students from Southeast Asia and East Asia to meet, exchange perspectives, and expand networks in the field of contemporary art. The program aims to foster learning and collaboration among students from diverse cultural backgrounds, while critically questioning art discourses shaped by Western-centric narratives and opening new perspectives grounded in contemporary Asian contexts.

The program featured a wide range of activities, including:

  • Group Discussions, enabling participants to exchange ideas on contemporary art trends and academic issues;
  • Keynote Talks delivered by invited experts in contemporary art;
  • Kyoto Excursions, offering opportunities to explore the city’s cultural and historical contexts; and
  • Networking Sessions, designed to build sustainable relationships within the Asian art community.

The theme for the 2025 edition, “Flipping Point: Looking Back at the World from Asia,” emphasized re-examining Asia’s role in the global art landscape and creating space for emerging voices from Asian art students to contribute to the future development of contemporary art.

Participation in this program represents a valuable opportunity for exchanging knowledge and experiences, strengthening regional and international networks, and enhancing essential skills and perspectives that support students’ professional growth in the field of art.
