CMU hosted CMU Pride Month 2023, themed ‘Equality Unleashed: Embracing Equality and Inclusion at CMU’ at the end of Pride Month, held from June 26 – 30 at the activity space at the CMU Food Centre.

The event was organized by Corporate Communication and the Alumni Relations Centre (CCARC), the Student Development Division and the CMU Student Union. The exhibition ‘Equality Unleashed: Embracing Equality and Inclusion at CMU’ was open all day to welcome everyone in transition to a new normal here at CMU.
On June 30, Assistant Professor Dr Chainarong Luengvilai, Assistant to the President, presided over the official opening ceremony with administrators, staff and students participating in numerous activities. Starting things off was a panel discussion on ‘Gender Equality in Education and Workplace’ by Assistant Professor Dr Chanintorn Pensute (Faculty of Political Science and Public Administration), Phornbancha Maikantha (also known as Mia Loi The Voice) and Phatraphin Phongthanalila (CMU Student Union President). Other activities included quizzes, a parade and a costume competition themed ‘Pride’, aiming to liberate self-expression with creativity. This event was kindly sponsored by Index Living Mall, Chiang Mai.

Dr Chainarong stated that CMU recognizes equality of all genders and has implemented guidelines and policies that promote gender diversity, such as allowing CMU students and staff to dress according to their gender, including graduates during the commencement ceremony, and continuously supporting the organization of the CMU Pride Month activity. Thanks to active efforts on this issue, CMU was ranked first in the world out of 938 participating institutions for SDG 5: Gender Equality in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022.

CMU hopes that this activity will help promote acceptance, understanding and equality for LGBTQIA+ in CMU and society. We would like to celebrate and encourage creative self-expression so that individuals can be their best selves in their way
